Thinking of Getting Inked

With all these talk of getting inked here in Multiply, and a tattoo place adding me as their contact, the inkling (pun intended) for having a tattoo that died long ago is once again, revived (IT'S ALIVE!!! IT'S ALIVE!!!)

I know having one put is a commitment, and if you have one, it's a lot more expensive to have removed. I also heard that having yourself tattooed is sort of addictive... you can't have just one. I have no idea though if I'd want another one put after the first one I'm DEEPLY contemplating of having. I'm thinking of having it placed at the backside of my right shoulder, visible only to myself, or if I'm brave enough to wear sleeveless shirts, he he he.

I'm thinking of having a military star, 1 inch, yellow and orange with black border. But the idea of having it for the reason JUST BECAUSE is bothering me. I know of a person who had the Hebrew characters for Jesus on his shoulder but the reflection of what's written on his arm isn't what he's emulating. The reason why I chose the star really has no standing reason, I just think it's cool. And that is what's bothering me.

What do you guys think? Should I or shouldn't I? Right now, it feels just right to have it done, the reason is what's basically stopping me. Do I need a reason anyway? What??? WHAAAAAAAAT?

  1. There must be a reason..what are your motives for getting a tattoo? It's the same thing with drinking. It's not a matter of whether it's wrong or not but what's inside your heart. :)

    I got this somewhere:

If you are considering the question, "To tattoo or not to?" I think the more serious questions to ask yourself are: What are my motives for wanting a tattoo? Am I seeking to glorify God or draw attention to myself? Will my tattoo be a source of contention for my loved ones? Will getting a tattoo cause me to disobey my parents? Will my tattoo cause someone who is weak in the faith to stumble?

Yun lang. Hope this helps with your predicament bro. :)

  2. Will it cause you to stumble, Sis? He he he he. Just kidding. :P

Nice arguments, though. Still, the arguments are also argumentative(???).

  3. I'm not of little faith so no. As Christians, I believe we need to be careful not to chase the young ones in spiritual maturity from us, the church. By 'young ones', I mean those who are new in Christ and the spiritual immature. Ultimately, it's between you and God. =)

  4. I think it is important to have a reason. Because you said it yourself "having one put is a commitment." Do you commit for no reason? But if you are having one because you think it's cool, isn't that reason already? Good luck with your decision.

  5. Wow, Yaj, nagseryoso ka! Nasorpresa lang ako. And you actually have a point, coolness is a reason (albeit to shallow).

Anyway, it's starting to get too serious. I actually know of a pastor who's also contemplating on having one. Pero yeah, I know, it doesn't mean na if a pastor is having one, I should have one also, or at least the liberty to have one JUST BECAUSE.

    Hay, I think it's a lost cause. :P

  6. Haha seryoso ba? Eh kasi, I was interested to have one din before, in memory of someone I love who passed away. I still want it pero I guess I'm not brave enough to do it. I have a reason but I don't have the guts. :)
