Lately, he sent me an email about the recent earthquake that hit China a few days ago. Here is the letter he sent...
Dear friends,
It's been a week yesterday since the intensity 8 earthquake hit Sichuan province in western China, it was felt as far north as Beijing. We had about intensity 5 to 6. I was at the office then (15th floor) feeling a horizontal circular movement, immediately realized it. (reminded me of the 1990 Luzon 7.8 earthquake) It lasted about 1 (long) minute ... then the images on tv and internet came: hardest hit was Wenchuan county, at the epicenter. Many of the victims were school children trapped under debris. (this happened at 2:28pm while many were in school) Reports of children being orphaned or parents losing their only child was a thousandfold ... one was a 12 yr old girl who was rescued but had to have her legs amputated, she was pleading "no please don't!" but the doctors had no choice, she also lost both parents to the quake, it was heartbreaking. The whole country was moved by the images, and almost overnight local and international donations flooded in, as of last night reached 10billion yuan. The govt declared a 3 day mourning period for the victims starting yesterday (May 19), at 2:28pm sirens sounded all across the country and everyone stood still, silent for 3 mins, even the cars, buses on the streets halted, i've never seen anything like it. (This was unprecedented since its usually for mourning leaders.) We are thankful for His protection and mercy and resolved to continue working. Please join us in pr esp. for the survivors in Sichuan quake (and for Myanmar). And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God (Rom 8:28) Our God is in control!
Arnold

ReplyDeleteSalamat po. We were a bit worried about Kuya Nono when we heard about the earthquake, but thank God he's ok, as the e-mail stated.
ReplyDeleteLet's continue to pray for our brethren who are afflicted with these devastations.
